The battle of the Moors and the Christians in Port de Sóller
In the Port of Sóller every second of May one of the most iconic Mallorcan festivals takes place, the battle of the moors and the Christians. This peculiar tradition is one of the most eagerly awaited moments by the locals, who prepare for this date months in advance. As the name suggests, during this festival there is a simulation of the unsuccessful invasion by the Arabian pirates many centuries ago. It is a worthwhile experience to see and to prove this, large crowds of tourists attend every year. You are completely free to tag along with either the moors or the Christians, so the choice is completely yours.
Melon Fair “Feria del Melón” in Vilafranca de Bonany
At Vilafranca de Bonany every year the Fiesta del Melón is held, a few days where this fruit is the main star. On the first weekend of September a series of activities are carried out surrounding this fruit: lanterns made from melons are created for the kids, competitions for the biggest melons, tastings of dishes which have incorporated melon…Coinciding with this festival is a night festival where you will find local artisanal products, local animals, organic produce, and of course, a lot of melons. Sant Feliu in our town, Llubí
We couldn’t write this article without talking about the festivals of Sant Feliu, in our hometown Llubí. Evert 1st of August we celebrate the patron saint of the town, Sant Feliu. In the days running up to the celebrations a great number of activities take place, organised by the town hall, restaurants and local organisations. You will find night festivals, concerts, markets, open air dinners…Every year there’s something new. The “Festa del Cavall” in Ses Salines
On the 28th of August in Ses Salines, a truly beautiful coastal town, the Festa des Cavall is celebrated in honour of the Menorcan “jaleo”. On this day, the horses and their riders carry out different trials of extreme difficulty accompanied by traditional music. After the traditional horse shows, people head to drink wine, sing and dance long in to the night. If you like the world of horses, you can’t miss out on this festival.
